The Hydraulic Excavator

Its the big tank thing, with the giant arm.
Its working outside my office, literally moving the street. 
Their activities silent behind glass. 
The operators smoothly move hands and feet,
activating the hydraulic joints and swivel.
Vibrations feed back through the yards of steel, touch mediated.
The machine moves like a careful gardener or surgeon. 
I believe a burned scoop would cause recoil in pain.
Slow and delicate for smoothing dirt,
then tensed, straining, as it rips through pavement,
next obediently still as its tiny masters attach a cable for the next task. 
The arm carefully slides a bit of dirt around,
a T-Rex pulling a blanket over its young.  
Then it pushes the scoop against the ground
to help it down the pile of dirt and pavement it
